Another live show, another podcast, another GitHub repo launches, and my next course is accepting enrollments. Let's dig in!
What's new this week
🔴 Thursday's Live show, Feb 16, 10am Pacific, 1800 UTC
This week I'll be answering questions about the content in my Docker and Kubernetes courses, including my new GitHub Actions and GitOps live course starting next month.
🚀 Podcast
This week's episode will be ready for you Friday. I talk with two pro's from the NGINX team, Robert Haynes and Brian Ehlert. There's a lot going on with NGINX and I wanted to focus this conversation around NGINX on Kubernetes, and specifically the two ways you can run it for cluster Ingress. We also get into some of the advanced scenarios for using NGINX, like caching and web-application-firewall.
Awesome Swarm
I've launched a new repo to help Swarm fans find the resources they need.
I've noticed an uptick in Swarm interest in the last few months, and it's now one of the most popular chat channels on my Discord Server. Most recently, Docker has released version 23.0, which contains CSI storage support for Swarm. multi-node volume support was one of the weakest areas of Swarm, so this is a welcome addition. It'll take a minute before all the vendors add Swarm support, and we truly have diverse shared-storage options for Swarm volumes. However, adding this and several other features to Swarm has brought forth the "quiet Swarm fans" that kept using it over the last three years while it had a questionable future during the Docker-to-Mirantis buyout.
I'm excited about the renewed interest in Swarm, and the Awesome List repo will be a way to capture what I'm seeing in the marketplace.
Next big thing
Live Course: Automate K8s deploys with GitHub and Argo CD
March 20-31: 90-minute Zoom classes on M-W-F, for 2 weeks
In last week's newsletter, I told you about how this course differs from my Udemy courses. Here's a little more...
In this live course, you get hands-on experience on how to implement GitHub Actions combined with Argo CD GitOps for a 1-2 punch of automation awesomeness. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded peers to learn and build your workflows together. You will also learn what you should be automating and how to ensure you have the right "human approval gates" when necessary for your org and culture.
We opened up enrollment and it's available at a discounted price, so I encourage you to take advantage of it now if you want to accelerate your adoption of GitHub Actions and GitOps for K8s.
🐦 Tweet of the week
AI will be a theme in nearly every tool we use this year. Don't worry, I'll keep you posted in this Newsletter on major happenings, and Kunal summed it up nicely.
👀 In case you missed it

🔴 Live show: Project Calico, Feb 9, 2023
Last week on my Live show, I talked with Tomas Hruby, Sr. Software Engineer at Tigera, about Project Calico CNI features for Kubernetes. Calico can be used in a lot of places, including Linux, Windows, containers, bare metal, eBPF or iptables.
🙌 High Fivers IRL FTW
At the Civo conf, it was awesome to be present when two folks in our High Fivers group met IRL. I watched as they said: "You look familiar, have we met?" "I don't think so." "Wait!" ...and they realized they had met in our high fiver meetings. 🤩
